Privacy

FactoryRegistry publishes a registry of manufacturing facilities compiled from public U.S. federal records. Most of what appears on this site is information about businesses, not individuals. This page says what we collect about people, why, and how long we keep it.

Information we collect

Email we send, and what we can tell

Messages we send to business contacts carry two kinds of measurement. Links are rewritten so that following one passes through this site before continuing to its destination, which tells us that the link was clicked. Messages with an HTML part also contain a single transparent image, and loading that image tells us the message was opened. Plaintext messages contain no such image and we cannot tell whether they were read.

We record the fact, the time, the link followed, the user-agent and the IP address the request came from. We do not use it to build a profile of you across other websites, and it is never passed to an advertising network. Open figures are unreliable by design — several mail providers fetch images on your behalf whether or not you look — and we treat them as such.

The unsubscribe link is never rewritten. It goes directly to the opt-out, so using it is not a click we record, and it cannot fail because our tracking is broken.

Contact records and where they come from

Business contact details in our outreach records come from two places, and we keep track of which is which. Most were compiled from public federal filings and from the published contact pages of company websites — lawful for business-to-business correspondence, and not the same thing as your having agreed to hear from us. The rest were given to us directly, by someone filling in a form on this site. Only the second group is recorded as having consented, and we do not treat the first as though they had.

We also score contacts internally — a simple tally that goes up when someone clicks a link, submits a form or claims a facility. It decides which enquiries we look at first. It is not shared, not sold, and has no effect on anything published about a facility.

Forms

A form on this site records what you typed, the time, your user-agent and your IP address. Submissions that our spam checks reject are also stored, marked as rejected — if those checks ever start catching real people, the only way for us to find out is to have kept them. Filling in a form creates or updates a contact record for the address you gave, marked as having asked to hear from us.

Federal source records

Facility records derive from public federal datasets published by the EPA, OSHA, SAM.gov and the U.S. Census. Some of those datasets include business contact details that companies filed with the federal government. We do not publish individual contact names on facility pages. If a record concerns you personally and you would like it reviewed, contact us.

How long we keep things

Your choices

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of your information at any time, subject to legal and operational limits. You can unsubscribe from any non-essential email using the link inside it — that link works in one click and needs no account, no reply and no explanation. Messages you asked for, such as a claim verification link, are not covered by that opt-out and will still reach you.

If you would rather a facility were not listed at all, ask, and a person will read the request: factoryregistry.com/delist.

Cookies

We use a small number of cookies for analytics and, if you are signed in, to keep your session. There is no advertising network on this site, and no cookie we set follows you to another one.
