Why you can trust this registry
Most directories of manufacturers make their money from the manufacturers in them — a paid tier, a lead sold to whoever bids, a ranking that moves when an invoice clears. Once that is true, every listing is an advertisement and the order of results is a price list. You cannot tell from the outside, which is why it is worth saying plainly what this is.
FactoryRegistry is a public record of who makes things in the United States, compiled from federal data. Nothing on it can be bought: not a listing, not a position, not a status. A facility marked Active earned that from independent government sources that have never heard of us, and a company that claims its page gets to correct its own record and nothing else. The six commitments below are what that comes to in practice, and the sources it rests on are named at the foot.
How it works is the other half: where each field comes from and what every status label means.
We don’t compete with the companies we list
FactoryRegistry is a registry. We do not broker work, quote jobs, take a cut of orders, or operate a competing manufacturing business. Listing a facility never puts us on the other side of its table.
We don’t sell your leads to your competitors
We do not run a lead-generation business against the companies in this registry. There are no lead-capture popups, and there is no version of this site where a buyer’s enquiry is auctioned to the highest bidder.
We don’t auction rankings
Result order is relevance, data completeness and confidence — nothing else. No field in our database can raise a facility’s position in exchange for payment. If we ever run a clearly-labeled featured slot, it will sit outside organic results, not inside them.
Every page is public
Facility, company, industry and location pages are fully public and indexable. There is no login wall on search or on refined results, and there never will be. You should not have to hand over an email address to find out who makes something near you.
Verification is computed, and free
Operating status is derived from independent federal records — EPA, OSHA, SAM.gov and the U.S. Census. It is not something a company can buy. A facility marked Active earned that from two or more independent sources, not from a subscription.
Claiming is free and takes three steps
If you run a facility you can claim its page, prove control of your domain, and publish immediately. No sales call, no trial, no card. Claiming lets you correct and enrich your record. It does not change where you rank.
Where the data comes from
- EPA Facility Registry Service — the facility backbone: identity, address and coordinates.
- OSHA Injury Tracking Application — employment bands and evidence a plant was operating in a given year.
- SAM.gov — federal contractor registrations, which renew annually and so signal liveness.
- U.S. Census — geography, industry classification and geocoding.
All of these are public records. Where a facility’s status is computed, the page shows which sources contributed and when each last reported. Nothing is self-reported unless it is marked Claimed.
